The key issues in managing MTBI following a closed head injury with a guide to the first 6 months including prognosis, specific recommendations to minimise impact of symptoms and to gradually resume activity. These are based on current MAA guidelines.
This is the second part of a two part series based on the current Motor Accidents Authority of NSW (MAA) Guidelines for Mild Traumatic Brain Injury following Closed Head Injury (2008).
By completing this learning activity, participants will be able to:
- Review the assessment and diagnosis of patients with MTBI
- Understand specific health sequelae of MTBI
- Develop a management plan for monitoring a patient's progress towards returning to pre injury activities - work/study, sport, driving
- Identify specific key management strategies e.g. use of the patient advice sheet
- Facilitate optimal patient recovery by knowing when and how to refer to other specialists as appropriate
