Compare and contrast contraceptive options in this case-based ALM on steroidal contraception.
The contraceptive options covered include the combined oral contraceptive pill, long acting methods, progestogen only pill, depot medroxyprogesterone acetate, the contraceptive implant and the hormonal IUD. Course notes are available with this online module.
The learning objectives for this ALM are:
- To state the modes of action of various contraceptive options.
- To recount examinations required before prescribing a particular contraceptive.
- To recall contraindications to different methods of contraception and develop systems to ensure that they are identified in relevant patients
- To identify appropriate contraceptive choices given different patient histories.
- To demonstrate effective communication strategies to maximise patient safety in making informed contraceptive choices.
