This module outlines the changes in The Australian Immunisation Handbook - 9th Edition 2008. We focus on the issues surrounding MMR vaccine and dealing with conscientious objectors.
Objectives:
At the completion of this module participants should be able to
- Assess the myths surrounding the measles/mumps/rubella (MMR) vaccine, evidence disproving these and how these can be discussed with patients who have uncertainties around receiving MMR vaccine
- Recall the indications for MMR vaccine in Australia
- Discuss the potential barriers for both patients and providers to provision of the MMR vaccine
- Recall a system in place in your practice to ensure that patients are provided with sufficient information to be able to make an informed decision regarding immunisation
- State the elements which constitute valid consent and how to obtain this prior to vaccination
- Review best practice for injection technique specifically for MMR vaccination
