How are the schedules created and what is on the horizon in terms of new vaccines?

Recall the antigen base, availability and target group for new vaccines approved for use in Australia in the period 2008-2010

Objectives:
At the completion of this module participants should be able to

  • Discuss new vaccine technology being used in the development of vaccines approved for use in Australia from 2008-2010
  • Briefly describe the regulatory process to approve vaccines for market and National Immunisation Program Schedule (NIPS) funding in Australia
  • Recognise new vaccines which may be currently available on the private market and identify target groups of patients which may benefit from these vaccines
  • Recall a system in place in your practice to ensure that patients are educated and informed about changes to immunisation schedules
