Influenza

With the 2008 season drawing to a close what do you need to do to prepare for 2009?

Objectives:
At the completion of this module participants should be able to

  • Define an influenza case and understand the epidemiology of influenza in Australia
  • Recall which patients meet the criteria for funded influenza vaccine in Australia
  • State which groups of patients are at risk for influenza and why vaccination is important for these groups
  • Discuss patient barriers to influenza vaccination and provide strategies to overcome these at a provider level
  • Recall the current federal management plan for a pandemic situation and detail specific recommendations from Australian research for pandemic preparedness in general practice
