Grand Rounds - Coeliac disease

In a case study based format, participants will review the differential diagnosis of the presenting symptoms of coeliac disease as well as red flag symptoms. As the case study progresses the investigation and management are outlined.

At the completion of this learning activity, the participant should be able to

  • Confidently assess the patient who presents with iron deficiency anaemia
  • Discuss the features of Irritable Bowel Syndrome and know the red flags that would exclude this as a possible diagnosis
  • Understand the many various ways in which coeliac disease may present
  • Be familiar with the tests available for the diagnosis of coeliac disease, as well as the possible need for family testing
  • State the known complications of coeliac disease
  • Recall the resources available to a patient with coeliac disease
  • Indicate the appropriate ongoing care of a patient with coeliac disease
