A refresher on Mumps |

The identification and immunisation of our patients in the prevention of mumps is discussed in two articles from the Medical Journal of Australia.
After reading the articles and completing the accompanying case study and MCQs, the reader should be able to;
- Be aware of the possible factors contributing to the recent increased incidence of mumps in Australia
- Emphasise the importance of 2 doses of MMR vaccination in the prevention of mumps and discuss the issues related to mumps immunisation
- Be alerted to the possibility of a diagnosis of mumps in the age group 20-29 years
- Identify the signs and symptoms of mumps, and be able to diagnose mumps both clinically, and confirm the diagnosis using laboratory tests
- Identify a system to safely immunise patients against mumps
