Grand Rounds - CV Risk in the quiet majority

This grand rounds looks at the common scenarios of our patients who have CV events but whose risk profile is within the accepted targets.

The key factors in the accurate diagnosis of cardiac risk using newer techniques of assessment and the important management strategies needed to reduce that risk.

By completing this learning activity, participants will be able to

  • Discuss the possible new markers for cardiac risk including CRP, lipoproteins and intraluminal plaque
  • Review the risk factors for cardiovascular disease
  • Differentiate the various strategies to lower cardiovascular risk
  • State the targets for reducing cardiovascular risk for each further individual and how the can be achieved
  • Ensure patient safety in reducing cardiac risk using systems of recall and follow up
