Absolute CVD risk in those aged over 55 years
This educational activity will cover the cardiovascular risk in patients aged over 55 years who have diabetes. This topic will be discussed in terms of the associated risk factors of lipids, hypertension and blood glucose levels. The education will detail the management of cardiovascular disease in terms of chronic disease management incorporating practice systems and access to current Medicare initiatives.
By completing this learning activity, participants will be able to:
- Assess patients aged over 55 years who have diabetes for overall cardiovascular risk.
- Recall the risk factors contributing to the development of cardiovascular disease.
- Discuss the management of the identified risk factors for the development of cardiovascular disease.
- Indicate the Medicare initiatives available to assist in the management of chronic disease.
- Discuss the practice systems which may be implemented to monitor patients with cardiovascular disease (and monitor end organ damage) to assist with ensuring patient safety.
