Chronic Ulcers and Dressings

This activity reviews the various types of chronic leg ulcers, their causes and predisposing factors. The activity encompasses the various types of dressings available and provides a guide to the choice of the appropriate dressing.

By completing this learning activity, participants will be able to:

  • Identify patients at high risk of chronic ulcers.
  • Recognise the characteristics of different common chronic ulcers.
  • Determine the different causes of common chronic ulcers seen in general practice.
  • Have a framework for the management of common chronic ulcers including the use of different type of wound dressings.
  • Ensure patient safety by regular follow up of those at risk, by utilising recall and reminders as part of comprehensive chronic disease mangement.
