Your data, Your patients, Your ePractice: An introduction to eHealth

This education will discuss the purpose and function of the personally controlled electronic health record (PCEHR), the quality use of data and the utilisation of e-tools to facilitate data cleansing and ensuring the quality of data in general practice. Change management, using the RACGP Quality Framework, is demonstrated.

The education is facilitated with the use of the National eHealth Transition Authority (NEHTA) The eHealth Journey, demonstrating a patient journey through a clinical care episode using the Health Identifiers (HI) service, demonstrating how to deliver quality, safe and efficient patient care using electronic products and tools.

This three hour online educational activity can be completed as a stand alone activity which provides a comprehensive introduction and can be complemented by a further 3 hour advanced workshop activity provided in all regions across Australia. Attendance at both the online and workshop activity can attract 40 category 1 points as an ALM (RACGP QI&CPD) or 6 PD points (ACRRM). By completing this learning activity, participants will be able to:

  • Discuss the emerging eHealth environment and link to daily clinical practice.
  • Describe the value of a structured quality framework.
  • Explain how best to incorporate a systematic approach to change management.
  • Recall the planning and implementation that is required for successful data management.
  • Ensure patient safety by initially demonstrating their skills by travelling with a virtual patient through their health journey and gaining understanding of health management in an e-enabled health sector.
