While osteoporosis affects men as well as women, men are less likely to receive medical treatment for their condition compared to women. This education covers osteoporosis testing and diagnosis in men, and explores their treatment and management strategies.

On completion of this education activity participants will be able to:

  • Recognise the prevalence of osteoporosis in men, and the public health burden associated with underdiagnosis and lack of treatment.
  • Identify men at risk of osteoporosis by proactively evaluating risk factors, and using appropriate screening techniques.
  • Advise men on lifestyle choices for the prevention and treatment of osteoporosis.
  • Counsel men with osteoporosis on appropriate pharmacological treatment options, including dosage regimens, patient safety and possible adverse effects.

This program has been developed with an educational grant from Amgen.
