Chronic non-cancer pain can have significant effects on a patient's physical and psychological wellbeing, and requires multimodal and multidisciplinary management approaches tailored to the individual patient. This module explores the process of creating individualised management plans using non-pharmacological and pharmacological approaches where appropriate.
Upon completion of this module the participant should be able to:
- Understand the multifactorial nature of chronic non-cancer pain and the requirement for an individualised, multimodal and multidisciplinary management approach.
- Apply a biopsychosocial approach to chronic non-cancer pain
- Selectively use analgesics for chronic non-cancer pain
- Understand the importance of continued monitoring of pain, function, adverse effects during opioid therapy.
