Course Overview

This module has been adapted from an RDN New Rural GP Orientation workshop in August 2014 entitled WorkCover in New South Wales. There have been ongoing changes to WorkCover since 2012 and its functions are now managed (effective 1 September 2015) by three organisations: SafeWork NSW, State Insurance Regulatory Authority (SIRA) and Insurance and Care NSW (icare). In this session Dr Ros Bullock explains in simple terms the complexities of providing services in workplace injury and illness cases, provides examples and answers common questions that arise in the rural practice setting.

At the end of this module you will have a greater understanding of:

  • Who regulates workplace safety in NSW.
  • The GP’s role in workplace injury or illness cases.
  • How to identify and work with other parties involved in a workplace injury or illness case.
  • How to initiate a workplace injury or illness case.
  • Billing and payments for workers compensation services.

On completion, you will have the option to earn CPD points for this topic by undertaking an assessment activity.

Course last updated April 2016.

Facilitator: Dr Ros Bullock
